In an exclusive interview with officials from Guangzhou Customs, we learned about the remarkable surge in cargo traffic through the Port of Guangzhou during the recent National Day holiday. From October 1 to 7, the Nansha Customs division facilitated the processing of an impressive 11,900 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of import and export containers, valued at over 600 million yuan. The key commodities traded during this period included automobiles, bulk goods, and petrochemical products.

Yang Fajia, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Business Division at Nansha Customs, shared insights on their operational strategies: “We implemented several measures to ensure the smooth clearance of import and export goods. Our around-the-clock services are designed to help businesses save time and enhance efficiency.”

In a bid to secure a consistent supply of fresh poultry to Hong Kong throughout the holiday, the Foshan Customs division, operating under Guangzhou Customs, rolled out a holiday appointment inspection mechanism. This initiative provided expedited declaration, inspection, and testing services—collectively promoted as the “three priorities and one quick” service—ensuring the freshness of poultry supplies. During the holiday, Foshan Customs issued 19 inspection and quarantine certificates for fresh poultry shipments to Hong Kong, amounting to over 102 tons.

On October 6, the cross-border e-commerce direct purchase import supervision warehouse at the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport comprehensive bonded zone initiated simultaneous operations on five sorting lines. These bustling lines connected the unloading area directly with domestic delivery vehicles, facilitating efficient logistics.

To manage the heightened demand for cross-border e-commerce clearance during the National Day holiday, Baiyun Airport Customs proactively engaged with e-commerce businesses to assess their anticipated volumes. They crafted a clearance support plan tailored to peak periods, considering extended operational hours as needed.

Miao Ruiqin, Deputy Director of the Emergency Supervision Division at Baiyun Airport Customs, commented on their approach: “We monitor key business indicators daily and work closely with our technical teams on-site to enhance system operations.” Over the holiday, Baiyun Airport Customs efficiently oversaw more than 120,000 import entries related to cross-border e-commerce.
