In a recent video interview with Taiwanese media, Luke Evans, the star of the action-comedy “Taipei Chasing Order,” shared insights about his filming experience in Taiwan. When asked about the approaching typhoon, he recounted a similar weather ordeal from his last trip here, saying, “Last time, I was stuck in the hotel due to the typhoon. I was on the 41st floor, and I had never seen rain like that in my life!”
This was Evans’ first film shoot in Taiwan, and he couldn’t help but sing the praises of the local people. “Taiwanese folks always seem to have smiles on their faces; they genuinely look happy,” he commented. He expressed a strong desire to explore Taipei on the weekends, mentioning night markets, museums, and temples, and emphasized, “No matter where you go, trying local cuisine is the essence of travel.” During his three-month stay for filming, he ventured around the city with his assistant and partner. “I took them to Taipei 101 and plenty of food spots. Now, I’ve made some friends in Taiwan,” he noted, adding that he hopes to introduce his parents to stinky tofu, despite its distinctive smell. “I really enjoy soup dumplings and a type of yellow cake as well.”
When discussing his collaboration with actress Gwei Lun-mei, Evans admitted he wasn’t previously familiar with her work. “But when I saw her driving a Ferrari barefoot, she looked so cool and confident—a truly beautiful woman,” he remarked. He expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations, stating, “This is her first full English performance, and I hope she gets more international opportunities moving forward.”
In a light-hearted moment, Evans reflected on his past role in “The Fast and the Furious” series, where he played an antagonist to Korean star Song Seung-heon. This time, they share the screen again. “If we get to work together again, I promise I won’t hurt him—though maybe I can’t guarantee that next time! Hopefully, we can finally be friends in a movie,” he joked. He emphasized their off-screen camaraderie, saying, “Song Seung-heon is a true gentleman and a fantastic partner. Acting with him is always a blast.”
Evans also described a particularly challenging fight scene set in a kitchen, where he faced over ten assassins in a confined space with flames everywhere. “The stunt teams from Taiwan and France were incredibly professional,” he explained. “Even though it looked dangerous, the choreography was so precise that no one got hurt.”
Additionally, Evans shared that he plays a father in “Taipei Chasing Order.” “I’ve portrayed a dad so many times on both big and small screens that I can’t even keep track!” he laughed. “Of course, acting the part is one thing, but actually being a dad is probably much tougher.” He praised the child actors he worked with, commenting, “The kids’ performances felt very natural; the young actor Yang Ming-wei, for instance, treated me like his new dad.” The film is currently screening in Taiwan and has received positive feedback.
