On the evening of September 9th, the New York Jets made their way to the San Francisco Bay Area, where they faced off against the 49ers in a highly anticipated matchup. The game marked the beginning of the NFL’s 18-week regular season, with hopes of clinching a playoff berth reignited for the Jets after a 19-32 loss to the 49ers.

Leading the Jets was 40-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, while the 49ers relied on the talents of their 24-year-old quarterback, Brock Purdy.

Prior to the game, the 49ers were favored to win, and the Jets had only managed to secure a season-opening victory once in the past six years.

Looking ahead, the 58th Super Bowl is set to take place on February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada, marking the first time the league has chosen the globally renowned gambling capital for the big event. In a previous encounter, the 49ers, with Purdy at the helm during the first half, took a lead but ultimately fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 22-25 in overtime.

In this recent game, the 49ers held onto the ball for an impressive 38 minutes and 40 seconds, once leading by 19 points. They scored consecutively in the second, third, and fourth quarters, finishing the first half ahead 16-7.

Both quarterbacks had lackluster performances. Rodgers completed 13 of 21 passes, with a longest connection of 36 yards, accumulating a total of 167 passing yards, one touchdown, and one sack; he also collaborated with a teammate on 16 rushing attempts for 54 yards and another rushing touchdown.

On the other hand, Purdy connected on 19 of 29 throws, with the longest completion reaching 34 yards and totalling 231 passing yards. He did not record a touchdown pass nor was he sacked. Additionally, he worked with two teammates on 36 rushing attempts, gaining 170 yards and scoring twice.

A standout player for the 49ers was their 24-year-old kicker Jake Moody, who was crucial to the victory, scoring in each quarter. His six successful field goals came from distances of 23, 31, 42, 46, 51, and 53 yards, solidifying his role as a key contributor to the team’s win.
