On October 15, the Kunming Customs announced that a shipment of 30 tons of imported fresh coconuts from Vietnam successfully cleared customs at the Hekou Highway Port in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province. This marks the first land-based import of fresh coconuts from Vietnam in the country.

In an interview, Wang Yanfen, head of the Port Regulation Division at Hekou Customs, explained, “We proactively outlined the regulatory details for Vietnamese fresh coconuts, designating specific personnel for each step of the customs process. Once the goods arrived, we prioritized on-site inspections and strictly verified the documentation, utilizing advanced technology like 5G smart handheld devices and H986 intelligent inspection equipment to facilitate the prompt market entry of these fresh coconuts.”

Since the signing of the plant quarantine protocol for exporting Vietnamese fresh coconuts to China on August 19, 2024, there has been a significant uptick in imports. According to recent statistics, Hekou Customs oversaw the import of 734,000 tons of Vietnamese fruits in the first three quarters of 2024, with a total value of 8.11 billion RMB, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 26.9% and 143.5%, respectively.

Hekou Customs plans to continue advancing the construction of smart customs and smart port facilities, leveraging the characteristics of Sino-Vietnamese trade to enhance bilateral commerce further.
