On October 15, North Korea reportedly destroyed sections of the Gyeongui and Donghae railroads that connect the two Koreas, escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. In response, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller urged North Korea to de-escalate the situation, stating, “They need to stop any actions that could increase the risk of conflict.”
Miller emphasized, “We have observed North Korea continuing to take actions that heighten tensions. We will continue to encourage them to de-escalate and cease any activities that could lead to further conflict.”
Additionally, the Korean Central News Agency reported that over the course of October 14 and 15, approximately 1.4 million members of the Youth League and student activists across North Korea petitioned to enlist or rejoin the military, expressing their determination to eliminate all extreme adversaries and criminals.
