At 77 years old, Glenn Close is set to receive the Career Achievement Award at the upcoming Movies for Grownups Awards, celebrating her five-decade-long career in the film industry. Known for her iconic roles in films such as “Fatal Attraction,” “101 Dalmatians,” and “The Wife,” Close has made a significant impact on cinema.

In a statement regarding the award, Close expressed her gratitude: “I am truly honored to receive the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award, even though I feel like I’m still 35. I love making films for adults and everyone, and I deeply appreciate the encouragement and support from everyone I’ve worked with over the past 50 years. Thank you to AARP for this wonderful honor.”

The AARP launched the Movies for Grownups Awards in 2002 to combat age discrimination in Hollywood and support audiences over 50. The next award ceremony is scheduled for January 11 in Beverly Hills, with Alan Cumming as the host. The event will be broadcast on PBS’s “Great Performances” on February 23 at 7 PM.

Martha Boudreau, AARP’s Executive Vice President and Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, highlighted Close’s unforgettable performances and her enduring influence in an industry often marked by ageism. “Glenn Close starred in ‘The Big Chill,’ the first hit film about baby boomers facing aging. From that point onward, her career has challenged Hollywood’s outdated notions of age discrimination. Her consistent success embodies the message we want to convey with the Movies for Grownups Awards,” Boudreau noted.

Past recipients of this prestigious honor include renowned actors such as Jamie Lee Curtis, George Clooney, and Lily Tomlin.
