On October 15, Dalian Yinggeshi Science City officially opened its doors after two years of construction. The facility has attracted high-level research institutions, including Dalian University of Technology and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with over 200 research teams and more than 1,000 research talents confirmed to be moving in.
The science city, which spans an area of 44.3 square kilometers, aims to establish itself as an innovation hub of international significance, focusing on national strategic technological strength and global leadership in clean energy innovation. State-of-the-art laboratories and facilities are being developed to serve as a major source for scientific and economic research.
At the opening ceremony, Liaoning Province Governor Li Lecheng announced the formal launch of Dalian Yinggeshi Science City. Representatives from Dalian University of Technology and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics signed collaboration agreements with various technology companies.
According to Luo Dongsheng, the Party Secretary of Dalian High-tech Zone, the construction of the laboratory project has reached 340,000 square meters, with significant progress on an additional 170,000 square meters dedicated to laboratory processes, 160,000 square meters for technological services, and 14 kilometers of roadworks and supporting utilities. The initial 200 specialized laboratories and research teams, along with over 1,000 research talents, are now set to reside there.
Over the past two years, the science city has successfully established two provincial laboratories in Liaoning, one municipal laboratory in Dalian, and a number of national key laboratories focused on energy catalysis. They have also leveraged over 200 technological achievements from local universities and institutions, partnering with key enterprises like Zhong Chuanmei and General Technology to create joint research and development centers. To date, more than 20 businesses have been registered, with over 30 emerging industry projects making substantial strides.
Currently, Dalian Yinggeshi Science City houses several high-level innovation platforms, including the Dalian Advanced Light Source and various nationwide key laboratories for energy catalysis, high-precision manufacturing, and fine chemicals.
Additionally, the second phase of construction is underway, managed by the Northeast branch of China State Construction Engineering Corporation. This segment is focused on interior finishing and electromechanical installations, with plans for the construction area to become ready for laboratory processes by the end of the year.
