On October 25, reporters from China News Service learned from the Chaozhou Maritime Safety Administration that in the first three quarters of this year, the agency ensured the safe passage of 377 vessels transporting dangerous goods to and from Chaozhou Port. This includes key materials essential for people’s livelihoods, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, totaling 10.91 million tons. This effort has significantly supported energy consumption demands in the eastern Guangdong region and facilitated economic development.

According to the agency, in response to the Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration’s guidelines for the special rectification of dangerous goods transportation, the Chaozhou Maritime Safety Administration launched a safety inspection initiative in May. This initiative focused on enhancing safety management for key materials and vessels to ensure the safety of operations during loading and unloading, as well as the movement of dangerous goods vessels in and out of the port. The action emphasized risk prevention and identified safety hazards associated with shipping companies, vessels, crew members, and cargo, implementing tiered control measures to maintain a stable safety environment for water transportation of dangerous goods.

Statistics show that this year, the agency has strengthened on-site supervision of vessels transporting dangerous goods, conducting 59 inspections and 16 nationality inspections. They identified 76 issues or defects, all of which have been rectified. Additionally, they investigated eight violations related to the transportation of dangerous goods, imposing fines totaling 46,400 yuan.

The Chaozhou Maritime Safety Administration reminds operators that prior declarations for vessels carrying dangerous goods must be made in accordance with regulations before entering or leaving the port. During loading and unloading operations, it is essential to implement safety checklists to ensure a safe process.
