On October 25th, the Guangzhou International Women’s Tennis Open continued its second round in the singles competition, where two prominent Chinese players, Zhang Shuai and Yuan Yue, were eliminated, missing out on a spot in the quarterfinals. However, there was good news from the doubles arena, as China’s Tang Qianhui, partnering with British player Appleton, advanced to the semifinals.

As the tournament progressed on the 25th, Wang Xiyu aimed to secure her place in the singles semifinals, while Zhang Shuai teamed up with Siniakova in an effort to reach the doubles final.

On the 24th, two-time champion Zhang Shuai faced American player Pera in what marked their first meeting. Unfortunately for Zhang, she struggled to find her rhythm early on, losing her serve in the fifth game of the first set. She had three break points in the next game but failed to convert, ultimately losing the first set 2-6. The second set saw no improvement, resulting in another 2-6 loss and her exit from the singles draw.

Third seed Yuan Yue took on Thai qualifier Sawangke, who was ranked nearly 120 places below her. Contrary to expectations, Sawangke dominated the match, breaking Yuan’s serve three times in the first set to secure a 6-2 victory. The second set featured a flurry of breaks, but Sawangke maintained her momentum, winning 6-3 to knock Yuan out of the tournament.

Tang Qianhui was the only victorious Chinese player on the 24th, as she and Appleton pulled off a remarkable comeback against the third-seeded pair of Eikeri and Ninomiya, winning with scores of 1-6, 6-3, 10-4. They are now set to face the team of Peter and Stollar in the next round after the latter defeated their opponents 7-6(3), 6-2. Additionally, a highly anticipated semifinal will take place on the 25th between the top-seeded duo of Zhang Shuai and Siniakova against Bondar and Zimmerman.

The quarterfinal matches of the singles competition also commenced on the 25th, with Wang Xiyu going up against Italy’s Branczietti.

This event is organized by the China Tennis Association and the Guangzhou Sports Bureau, with support from the Guangzhou Sports Competitions Center, the Guangzhou Tennis Association, and the Cultural, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Nansha District, Guangzhou.
