On October 16, reports from the Shandong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision stated that, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, an investigation was launched into serious violations of discipline and law by Liu Jiancheng, the former Party Secretary of Weifang Vocational College.
The investigation revealed that Liu Jiancheng had lost his ideals and beliefs, strayed from his original mission, and exhibited disloyalty and dishonesty towards the Party. He resisted organizational scrutiny and ignored the spirit of the Central Committee’s eight regulations, which led him to improperly accept gifts, consumer cards, and invitations to meals and travel that could compromise his ability to perform his public duties impartially.
Liu also crossed ethical boundaries by borrowing money from those he was supposed to manage and using his official power to benefit relatives in business activities. He neglected workplace responsibilities, did not prioritize family values, and engaged in corrupt practices, including exchanging power for money. This included using his position to help others secure contracts and business opportunities while illegally accepting substantial bribes.
His actions constituted serious violations of the Party’s political, integrity, work, and personal conduct disciplines, amounting to significant official misconduct and suspected bribery. Despite the Party’s anti-corruption measures after the 18th National Congress, Liu failed to mend his ways, leading to grave consequences both for him and the broader community. Accordingly, the Shandong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection decided, after discussions at its Standing Committee and with the approval of the Provincial Party Committee, to expel Liu Jiancheng from the Party and terminate his public office. He also lost his status as a representative in the Thirteenth Party Congress of Weifang City, and all illicitly obtained assets were confiscated. His suspected criminal activities have been referred to the prosecution for legal review and indictment, along with the associated properties.
