In 2024, we are witnessing the inaugural year of the “Big BRICS Cooperation.” The 16th BRICS Leaders’ Summit marks the first in-person gathering of BRICS leaders following the historic expansion of what we now refer to as the “BRICS family.”
As a key platform for solidarity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries, the BRICS mechanism stands out today as one of the most significant global south alliances. It is essential for this coalition to embrace its broader responsibilities by addressing the aspirations of its people for a better life. With its vast population, extensive land area, and rich natural resources, BRICS is uniquely positioned to elevate cooperation to new heights, fostering a multipolar world that upholds equality and inclusivity in economic globalization.
China, as a founding member, has consistently been a steadfast supporter and active participant in BRICS. It has played a pivotal role in guiding the cooperation framework, keeping in mind its commitment to working alongside a broad coalition of developing nations. The global development initiative proposed by China has garnered enthusiasm from over 100 countries and international organizations, resulting in the implementation of more than 200 projects supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund.
The “Big BRICS Cooperation” is at a critical juncture, poised to transition into a new era. China is eager to collaborate with all BRICS nations to establish pillars of “Peaceful BRICS,” “Innovative BRICS,” “Green BRICS,” “Fair BRICS,” and “Cultural BRICS.” Together, they aim to usher in a new phase of high-quality development in the Big BRICS Cooperation and work collectively with more countries in the Global South toward building a community with a shared future for humanity.
