On October 26, the 20th typhoon of the year, “Tamar,” struck Yongxing Island in Sansha City, Hainan Province, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The local firefighting and rescue team sprang into action to address the emerging hazards.

At around 8:19 a.m., the command center of the Sansha firefighting team received a call from concerned citizens reporting fallen trees blocking the airport road on Yongxing Island. Upon arrival, rescuers discovered that strong winds had knocked over multiple trees, creating a hazardous situation on the roadway.

With winds continuing to intensify, firefighters quickly grabbed power saws to cut the trees into manageable pieces and clear them from the road. After approximately 10 minutes of urgent work, the fallen trees were completely removed.

In addition to clearing the road, the firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of other nearby trees to identify potential hazards. They proceeded to trim and reinforce these trees to eliminate any risks. Fortunately, the high winds and heavy rainfall caused by “Tamar” only resulted in downed trees, with no injuries reported among the community.

The typhoon also caused unusual seawater flooding on Yongxing Island, leading to significant water accumulation in a backup power room of a local building. Once again, the Sansha firefighting and rescue team mobilized quickly, utilizing portable pumps to remove the flooding. As of now, the affected area has been largely cleared of water.

This rapid response by emergency services showcases their dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents during such severe weather events.
